Dr. Rui (Ray) WANG

Mr. Rui Wang received the B.Eng degree (first class honor - ranked 2nd) in computer science from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2004, and is expected to receive the Ph.D degree in electrical engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2009. His current research interests include cross-layer optimization, wireless ad-hoc network, and cognitive radio. He is also involved in the standardization of IEEE 802.22 (Wireless Regional Area Network), IEEE 802.16m and IMT-Advanced. He was a postdoc research fellow in the lab during 2008-2009 and he is awarded with the Thousand Youth Talent Scheme and is currently an Associate Professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology China (SUSTC).

Dr. Shunqing (LED) ZHANG

Shunqing Zhang graduated from the Dept of Microelectronics, Fudan University with a B.Eng (first class honor - rank 2nd) in 2005. After that, he was admitted by the Dept of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology for PhD study. He was a PhD candidate on wireless communication. His current research interests include resources allocation and optimization in the relay networks, wireless ad-hoc network, and cognitive radio networks. He is also involved in the standardization of IEEE 802.22 (Wireless Regional Area Network),IEEE 802.16m (WiMAX) and IMT-Advanced. He obtained the Ph.D. at HKUST in 2009 and is currently working as a senior research staff in Intel Research Lab, Shanghai.

Mr. Eddy CHIU

Eddy Chiu received the B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc. degrees from Simon Fraser University (www.ensc.sfu.ca), BC, Canada in 2003 and 2006 respectively, both in Electrical Engineering. He was a Ph.D student in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong SAR, China. His research interest is multi-user communication systems with limited feedback. Moreover, he is involved in the standardization of IEEE 802.16m (WiMax). He graduated with Ph.D. in 2014 and he is currently a R&D Manager in the Wireless System Team in ASTRI.

Mr. Huang HUANG

Huang Huang received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. (Gold medal) from the  Harbin Institute of Technology in 2005 and 2007 respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. His recent research interests include cross layer design and performance analysis via game theory in random access network, interference mitigation techniques such as lattice interference alignment as well as embedded system design. He graduated with a Ph.D. at Aug 2011 and is now working in Huawei Technologies as senior system engineer.

Dr. Liangzhong (Steven) RUAN

Mr Steven Ruan received the B.Eng degree in ECE from Tsinghua University in 2007 (1st class Honors).  His current research interests include delay-optimal cross-layer optimization, cooperative communications and interference mitigation techniques such as interference alignment. He is also involved in various industrial projects such as Cognitive Cooperation Communications. He is now a postdoc at MIT under the supervision of Prof. Moe Win.

Dr. Ying CUI

Miss Ying Cui received the B.Eng degree in Information Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2007 (1st class Honors).  Her current research interests   include cross-layer scheduling, delay-sensitive resource allocation and stochastic optimizations. She is also involved in the standardization of IEEE 802.22 (Wireless Regional Area  Network) and IMT-Advanced. She has spent 6 months at Yale under the supervision of Prof. Edmund Yeh. She obtained her Ph.D. at Nov 2011 and she was a postdoc research fellow at Yale, MIT. She obtained Youth Thousand Talent Scheme and is currently a Professor at Shanghai JiaoTung University.


Mr. Hao, YU

Mr. Hao YU received the B.Eng. (1st Class Honors) in Information and Communication Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2008. Since September 2008, he has graduated with MPhil degree at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) at 2011. His research interests focus on wireless communication, rank-constrained optimizations for MIMO applications, stochastic games and interference mitigation techniques for wireless communications.

Dr. Yan (BigBird) CHEN

Yan Chen received her B.Sc degree in communication and information systems from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2004. She received her Ph.D degree in information science and electronic engineering from Zhejiang University in 2009. Since Jan 2008, She has been a visiting researcher in Mr. Big Cat's research group. She is supposed to complete the visiting in March 2009 and she eventually became Miss Big Bird and happily became Dr. Chen in June. Her current research interests lie in combined information theory and queueing theory in wireless communications and networking, with particular emphasis on exploiting communication opportunities via user cooperation and cognition. She is currently working as R&D Manager in Huawei Technologies (Shanghai), specializing on Green Communications.

Dr. Huang Kaibin

Dr. Huang received the B.Eng. (1st Class Honors) and M.Eng. from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and 2000 respectively, and the Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, in 2008, all in electrical engineering. From 2000-2004, he was an associate scientist at the Institute for Infocomm Research in Singapore, developing software defined radio systems. He has received the Motorola Partnerships in Research Grant, the University Continuing Fellowship at UT Austin, and the Best Student Paper award at IEEE Globecom 2006. His research interests focus on limited feedback techniques for multiuser wireless networks and mobile ad hoc networks. He was a postdoc research fellow in the lab during 2008-2009 and he is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, University of Hong Kong.

Miss Qingqing (Hilda) HUANG [QQ]

Qingqing is working towards BEng dgree in electronic engineering and BBA degree in business management in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and is expected to graduate in summer 2011. She has been happily learning and working in Big Cat's research group since summer 2009, and her current research interest include delay-aware scheduling problems in wireless network. One thing worth mentioning is that Hilda is not only “cute” but also a very clever girl (who has an IQ of 149). She has basically taken all mathematics and advanced (PG level) communication courses during her UG Year 1 and Year 2 and she is now worrying what to do in her UG Year 3.......:-) Eventually, QQ is now studying Ph.D. at MIT.

Dr. Chung-Ha (Esther), KOH

Dr. Rong (Sunny), RAN

Chung Ha (Esther) Koh received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. She is currently working as a post doctorial researcher in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong. Her research interests are Self-Organizing network (SON) and cross-layer optimization in wireless communication systems.

Rong (sunny) Ran received the M. Eng and Ph. D from the Chonbuk National University and Yonsei University, South Korea, in 2004 and 2009 respectively. From 2009-2010, she was a senior researcher at the Electronics & Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI), South Korea, working on IEEE 802.16m standardization. She had received the Excellent Foreigner Students Scholarship from Korean government for four years. She is currently a research associate in the lab and interested in Multiuser wireless communication, stochastic optimization control and interference mitigation techniques.

Mr. Fan (Michael), ZHANG

Mr. Fan (Michael) ZHANG revived his B.Eng. (1st Class Honor) from Zhejiang University in  2010. He joined the department of electronic & computer engineering in HKUST in Sep. 2011. His research interests focus on cross-layer delay-sensitive resource allocation, dynamic programming and control for wireless communication systems. He is also involved in various projects such as cooperative MIMO communications. He is currently a senior engineer at Huawei Noah Lab in HK.

Mr. Xiongbin, RAO

Mr.Xiongbin RAO received his B.Sc degree from the Electronics and Information Engineering department (Rank 2 in Advanced Class) in Huazhong University of Sci. & Tech. in 2010. He is currently pursuing a Ph,D degree in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He has been working on the area of wireless communications. His recent research interest includes interference control and limited feedback design. He graduated in 2015 and is currently a senior engineer at DJI Shanghai.

Mr. Fuxing, ZHUANG

Fuxin received the B.Eng degree (with 1st class Honors) in ECE from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2011. He graduated with an M.Phil degree in ECE in 2013. His recent research interest is on the distributed cooperation in interference limited wireless network. He is currently working as venture capitalist.

Dr. An LIU

An Liu received the Ph.D. and the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Peking University, China, in 2011 and 2004 respectively. From 2008 to 2010, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering, University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His current research interests include wireless communication and information theory. His industry experience includes one year's internship at Intel China Research Center Beijing, and 2 years' R&D experience as a Chief technician and one of the founders in D-rate Corporation, Beijing

Mr. Junting (Allen), CHEN

Mr. Junting CHEN received his B.Sc degree in Electronic Science and Technology from Nanjing University in 2009. He is currently pursuing a Ph,D degree in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He has been working on the area of wireless communication. His recent research interest includes distributive algorithm designs for stochastic optimizations and the tracking  performance of distributive algorithms over fast varying channels. He spent one year at MIT as visiting student and is currently a postdoc research fellow at Eurecom working with David Gesbert.

Dr. Tianyu, WU

Mr. Tianyu Wu received the B.Eng degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2001. He was a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include limited CSIT feedback techniques, joint source channel coding and cognitive radio networks. He is also involved in the standardization of IEEE 802.22 (Wireless Regional Area Network) and IEEE 802.16m. He obtained PhD. in 2009 and is currently a senior research staff in MediaTek, Silicon Valley.
